Roofers in Stockport

We cover Stockport from Macclesfield, up the A523 through Poynton and Hazel Grove. Stockport's red-brick terraces and Victorian semis make up most of the roofs we work on here: Welsh slate, brick chimney stacks, rear extensions and dormers, many over a century old.

Stockport's houses and roofs

Stockport grew on cotton and hat making in the nineteenth century, and its great railway viaduct, finished in 1840, still crosses the Mersey valley in the middle of town. Around the centre, Edgeley, Cheadle Heath and Shaw Heath have long streets of red-brick terraces with slate roofs. Heaton Moor, Heaton Mersey and Davenport have larger Victorian and Edwardian semis and villas, with bays, gables and attic rooms.

Further out, Offerton, Marple and Hazel Grove have more interwar and post-war housing, and many homes across the borough now have dormer loft conversions.

Planning and roof work in Stockport

Stockport is in Greater Manchester, and planning and building control are with Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council, not Cheshire East. The borough has a number of conservation areas, including parts of the Heatons and the town centre, where changes to roofs facing the street need care. Most dormers on houses outside conservation areas fall under permitted development if they are at the back and within the size limits.

Roofing in Stockport: questions

Do you cover all of Stockport?

We cover the borough, including Edgeley, the Heatons, Davenport, Offerton, Hazel Grove, Marple and Romiley, along with Bramhall and Cheadle.

Can you repair the lead roof over my bay window?

Yes. Bay roofs are usually lead or slate. We renew split lead or relay slates and renew the flashing to the main wall.

Can you fix a leaking dormer?

Yes. Most dormer leaks are at the flat roof edges, the cheeks or the flashing where the dormer meets the main roof. We find which and repair it.
