Commercial and industrial roofing

Commercial roofs fail in the same places as house roofs, the joints, edges, gutters and outlets, but the cost of a leak is higher when it is over stock, machinery or tenants. We repair and replace flat roofs, industrial profiled sheeting and gutters on shops, offices, units and blocks of flats, and plan the work around your business.

Commercial roofing work

  • Flat roof repairs and replacement in torch-on felt, single-ply membranes and liquid systems
  • Profiled metal and fibre cement sheet repairs, including rooflight sheets
  • Box gutter and valley gutter clearing, lining and repair
  • Roof surveys with photo reports for owners, landlords and managing agents
  • Planned maintenance visits to clear outlets and catch faults early
  • Roof work on blocks of flats, with access planned around residents

Safety on commercial roofs

Many industrial roofs have fragile rooflights and fibre cement sheets that will not take a person's weight, and falls through fragile roofs are one of the most serious risks in the trade. Work is planned with edge protection, crawling boards, safety netting or a mobile elevating platform as the roof requires, following the Health and Safety Executive's guidance on work at height.

Working around your business

We agree access, working hours, noise and the safe zone below the work with you before we start, and where needed work in phases so part of the building stays in use. For tenanted buildings we can provide information you can pass on to occupiers.

Commercial roofing: questions people ask

Can you repair a commercial roof without closing the building?

In most cases, yes. We plan access and phasing so the building stays open, and use exclusion zones below the work area.

What is a box gutter?

A box gutter is a gutter set within the roof, often between two slopes or behind a parapet, common on industrial units and older town-centre buildings. When it blocks or its lining fails, water goes straight into the building.

How often should a commercial roof be inspected?

Many owners have flat and industrial roofs checked at least once a year and after severe storms, and outlets and gutters cleared at the same time. Small faults found early are far cheaper than a leak over stock.

Do you work on asbestos cement roofs?

Asbestos cement roof sheets are common on older units. Work on them follows the Health and Safety Executive's rules, starting with knowing what the material is. Some work needs a licensed asbestos contractor, and we tell you which applies.
